September Roundup
I created a vision of David in my mind and simply carved away everything that was not David."
— Michelangelo.
I came across this quote this month and it sat with me. Isn’t it beautiful, the idea that within all of us lies something waiting to be revealed? We often think of self-discovery as adding layers, learning more, but sometimes it’s really about letting go at what isn't us. The expectations, the stories we’ve carried that no longer fit. Like Michelangelo, carving away until David emerged, we, too, can sculpt our lives by stripping back everything that isn't our true self. Maybe this transition isn’t about becoming someone new.
Maybe it’s about uncovering who we’ve been all along, flowing with the quiet knowing that we are already whole.
Books to inspire and reflect
📚 Non-fiction Pick: The Most Important Thing
Adyashanti's The Most Important Thing isn't a book that loudly declares itself; instead, it softly shares essential truths that sit deep. It's full of gentle, thought-provoking insights on life, awareness, and the nature of being. I found myself pausing often. It’s one of those reads that stays with you long after you’ve closed the last page.
📚 Fiction Pick: The Days I Loved You Most
Amy Neff’s The Days I Loved You Most took me on an emotional journey. Her writing beautifully captures the complexities of love and loss, evoking nostalgia while exploring the depths of memory and grief. The book left me in that bittersweet space where the heart aches, but also feels full from the experience of loving so deeply. Neff has this delicate way of making you reflect on your own experiences of love—what we hold on to, and what we have to let go of
Heads Up: The book does touch on some heavy stuff like heartbreak, grief and loss, what life means and what death means, so just be aware if you’re in a sensitive space.
On moving from September to October…
I’m finding something so soft and comforting about this time of year. September’s warmth is hanging on just a little longer, like that last sip of hot tea on a cool day. We know the crispness of October is coming, but for now, we’re savouring every golden sunset and every quiet moment before the shift. It's the perfect time to wrap ourselves in cozy blankets, reflect on what we’re shedding, and welcome the subtle changes with a full heart.
As this roundup wraps up, I hope in this shift of seasons you make space for what moves you.
Take care, savour these early autumn days, and I’ll catch up with you in October!
